Australia welcomes several million visitors yearly, receiving over 7 million guests in year 2015. Whether you are visiting Australia for tourism, to visit family or for business, you will be required to obtain a valid visa before entering Australia.

There are different types of visitor visa one can apply for, depending on their country of nationality.

Australia – Visitor Visa (Subclass 600)

Purpose: Tourism, visiting family/friends, or short-term business activities

General Requirements:

  • Valid Passport – Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay..

  • Passport-Sized Photos – Recent, meeting Australian visa photo standards.

  • Proof of Financial Capacity – Bank statements, payslips, tax returns, or financial support letter from a sponsor.

  • Travel Itinerary – Flight bookings, hotel reservations, and planned activities.

  • Proof of Ties to Home Country – Evidence of employment, business ownership, properties, or dependents to ensure return.

  • Invitation Letter (if applicable) – From a family member/friend in Australia, including their visa status and financial support details.

  • Health Insurance – Recommended for the duration of your stay.

  • Character and Health Requirements – May require a police clearance and medical exam, depending on nationality and length of stay.

Additional Supporting Documents:

  • Employment certificate (if employed)

  • Business registration and tax documents (if self-employed)

  • School enrollment letter (if a student)

  • Marriage certificate (if applicable)

Processing Time:

  • Typically 3–6 weeks, but may vary.


New Zealand – Visitor Visa

Purpose: Tourism, visiting family/friends, or short-term study (up to 3 months)

General Requirements:

  • Valid Passport – Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your departure date.

  • Passport-Sized Photos – Meeting NZ immigration photo guidelines.

  • Proof of Financial Capacity – Bank statements showing at least NZD 1,000 per month (or NZD 400 if accommodation is prepaid).

  • Travel Itinerary – Flight bookings, hotel reservations, and trip plans.

  • Proof of Ties to Home Country – Employment, property ownership, business, or family commitments to ensure return.

  • Invitation Letter (if applicable) – From a family member/friend in NZ, including their immigration status and financial support statement.

  • Health and Character Requirements – Medical certificates and police clearance if required.

Additional Supporting Documents:

  • Evidence of sponsorship (if someone else is covering your expenses)

  • Proof of past travel history (if available)

Processing Time:

  • Usually 20–40 days, depending on the applicant’s nationality and background checks.


Additional Tips for a Successful Visa Application:

  • Ensure all documents are clear and valid,

  • Submit a well-prepared cover letter explaining the purpose of your visit and how you will fund your stay.

  • Demonstrate strong ties to your home country to prove you will return after your trip.
