Australians can sponsor their fiancé, de facto partner or spouse using the partner visa- but it can be quite expensive.

Immigration application fee alone is around 7,000 which is among the most expensive in the world. It's been labelled- the 'love tax', because it is a fee that people are willing to pay to be with their partner.  If they're going to invest that amount of money, it’s important that it’s done right the first time because minor mistakes can become very costly. If the application is refused based on any number of discretionary decision exercised by immigration, then they will be compelled to spend thousands more for a competent agent to appeal at tribunal and wait a year for a hearing.
